An Edmond student died after a motorcycle accident

UPDATE: Aug 26 9:30 p.m. An Edmond North High School student who was involved in a motorcycle accident Thursday morning has died. Edmond Public Schools issued the following statement. “Edmond Public Schools is heartbroken to learn of the untimely death of a student from Edmond Nord from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Thursday morning. We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family in this unimaginable moment. As an organization that works for the well-being of young people every day, we are deeply saddened when the life of one of our own is cut short.” — A student at Edmond North High School is in critical condition after a motorcycle accident Thursday morning. Witnesses said the driver of the motorbike was traveling at high speed when it collided with a van. Police told KOCO 5 that the student was in critical condition. The minivan was heading north and turning left into this mall in Lowe’s. He was hit by a motorbike traveling south. Witnesses say it appeared to be high speed,” Ward said. A student from Edmond Nord high school is in critical condition after a motorcycle accident on Thursday morning.

Witnesses said the driver of the motorbike was traveling at high speed when it collided with a van. Police told KOCO 5 that the student was in critical condition.

“It’s an accident here on Covell and Kelly,” said Emily Ward of Edmond Police.

As the van turned into a hardware store, he was hit by a motorcycle.

“The van was traveling north and turning left into this mall in Lowe’s. It was hit by a motorbike traveling south. Witnesses say it appeared to be high speed,” Ward said.

The driver of the motorcycle was seriously injured.

“The motorcycle is a young man. He was driven, lights and sirens, to OU Medical in downtown Oklahoma City in very, very serious condition,” Ward said.

Police have since told KOCO 5 that the 17-year-old student from Edmond left surgery but remains in critical condition.

Edmond Public Schools told KOCO 5 that at this time, their goal is to help the student’s family in any way possible.

Police said the driver of the van cooperated with police and left uninjured.
