From August 2014 to July 2017, Gilbert served as Dean and Principal of Ohio State Lima and Professor in the Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Ohio State. During his tenure, compared to the previous six years, the campus experienced its first increase in enrollment, recorded its highest freshman retention rates, and recorded increases in four- and five-year graduation rates. Additionally, Ohio State Lima had the largest increase in the percentage of students from underrepresented minorities in campus history and the highest average ACT score for the incoming class in the previous six years.

A scholar, educator, and award-winning documentary filmmaker, Gilbert earned her bachelor’s degree from Yale University, her MFA from Temple University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska.
