BOSTON, March 24, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — A recently announced partnership between Education Saga and Literature Education means schools will be able to offer students one of the most effective personalized tutoring programs in the country through a platform designed for easy delivery.
Saga, a national nonprofit organization, offers a research-backed math curriculum with a track record of success for middle and high school. The Littera platform provides technology for districts to design, deliver, and evaluate personalized tutoring programs that provide real-time, face-to-face, in-person, or virtual instruction.
“Success in middle-level math, especially Algebra 1, is fundamental to passing higher-level math courses and earning a high school diploma, and Saga is the gold standard for high-dose math tutoring,” said Justin Serrano, CEO and co-founder of Littera. “Saga’s proven tutoring intervention, coupled with Littera’s platform, will make it easier for districts to implement effectively and deliver critical support to students who need it most.”
“Tutoring, when done right, can do more than help students catch up. It can help them thrive,” said AJ Gutierrez, co-founder of Saga Education. “By partnering with Littera, we are excited to bring our research-based tutoring program to schools and districts as they tackle the learning disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Littera’s Academic Support Platform leverages district assessment data to identify students in need of tutoring and to support a variety of curriculum models and content. It automates scheduling and other logistical aspects and can include in-person or real-time video and audio instruction, with the same tutor every time. The Saga tutoring program will be integrated with the Littera academic support platform, allowing district customers to select the appropriate content required to meet individual student needs. As tutoring progresses, the Littera platform captures student and tutor feedback, attendance, and dosage data, and connects the dots for schools and teachers to have visibility into programs tutorials performed on the platform.
Since 2013, the University of Chicago Education Lab studied Saga Education’s Intensive Mathematics Tutoring Model in Chicago public schools and New York City, finding that it significantly improves the academic results of high school students. In two randomized controlled trials, students who were tutored by Saga learned up to two and a half extra years of math in one school year, equivalent to closing up to 50% of the gap between black and white tests in a school year. Randomized controlled trials also found that Saga’s tutoring model reduced math class failure rates by 60%.
