Santa Ana College Opens New $60 Million Student Center – Orange County Register

Santa Ana College unveiled its new $60 million Johnson Student Center at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday night.

The 63,642 square foot building was paid for with Measure Q bond funds, authorized by voters in 2012. Measure approved up to $198 million in borrowing through the sale of bonds for construction projects. renovation and construction at Santa Ana College, which will be reimbursed by levies added to property taxes.

The student center is the penultimate of the district’s projects to be funded by the Q measure.

“Based on a recent social media engagement, students are excited to experience this state-of-the-art building in person this fall,” said university spokeswoman Dalilah Davaloz.

Financial aid offices, an on-campus bookstore, and a health and wellness center are some of the features to be housed in the two-story building named after former university president John Johnson. There will also be a cafeteria and lounge with pool and ping-pong tables for student enjoyment.

The Johnson Student Center replaces a facility of the same name built in 1968, which was demolished in 2018 for the project.

Measure Q-funded projects already completed include the 2015 renovation of Dunlap Hall – a building for humanities and social sciences students – and a 2018 central plant and infrastructure replacement project. of Measurement Q from Santa Ana College will be a $62 million science. building to be completed in the spring of 2022.
