Saudi student brings hope to deaf drivers with award-winning invention

RIYADH: Saudi female graduates outnumber their male counterparts in an on-the-job training program launched by the Human Resource Development Fund (Hadaf).

Hadaf said more than 61,000 male and female graduates with diplomas, bachelor’s degrees or higher have benefited from the Tamheer program since its launch in 2017.

Of this figure, 74% of the participants were women.

Riyadh, Makkah and Eastern Province were the top three regions represented by the participants.

Tamheer aims to help Saudi nationals acquire the expertise and skills required for the job market through practical on-the-job training based on their specialty or field of study.

This also helps to increase their employability and stimulates the private sector to attract trained nationals once they have completed the training phase.

Tamheer provides a monthly financial allowance of SR 2,000 ($533) to graduate degree holders from technical, health, and administrative institutes and colleges, and SR 3,000 ($800) to those with a baccalaureate and above.

It also assumes the cost of insurance for trainees when they are in the workplace for the practical part of the program.

The training period varies from three to six months.

Trainees receive a certificate of experience upon successful completion of the program.

To benefit from the programme, candidates must have a higher education degree and have been unemployed for at least six months.

Hadaf renewed its invitation to institutions to offer training opportunities through the national job portal Taqat.

It encourages companies to train Saudi graduates enrolled in the program. It is funded by Hadaf using fees paid into a parallel program called Nitaqat, the Saudiization program aimed at reducing unemployment rates while mobilizing the country’s human capital to its full potential.

When companies pay Saudi units to reach a particular range of the Nitaqat program, that money is used as an incentive for Tamheer graduates.

Companies that offer on-the-job training through Tamheer also benefit from the program since Hadaf covers the company’s financial expenses by paying trainees a monthly bonus.

Employers have the opportunity to learn about the skills and qualifications of Saudis in the labor market and hire the most qualified people to work for them.

Companies that register for the program must meet specific requirements to be eligible.

There should be a clear plan for interns, an appointed mentor for every 10 interns, a monthly attendance register and feedback for interns.

Tamheer allows government, semi-government and private institutions to register.

It contributes to the development of the Saudi economy and society by enabling young people to join the workforce.
