Department of Student Management and Alternative Programs

The Department of Student Management and Alternative Programs manages student discipline and non-traditional programs.

Student discipline includes conducting long-term suspension hearings, readmission hearings, alternative placement appeal hearings, and reassignment/criminal disposition hearings.

Non-traditional programs include the following:

Vision Statement

The vision of the Department of Student Management and Alternative Programs is to promote a safe and nurturing educational environment where all students, K-12 and adult learners, have the opportunity to reach their full potential – academically, socially and emotionally using multiple options within the system to receive the appropriate services to succeed.

Mission statement

The mission of the Department of Student Management and Alternative Programs is to provide a variety of educational opportunities to meet the diverse needs of all students, K-12 and adult learners, through choices of non-traditional education. This will be accomplished by:

  • Provide a continuum of services for K-12 students and adult learners that includes both self-selected choice options and educational opportunities offered due to disciplinary issues;

  • Understand that not all students learn in the same way or at the same time;

  • Partner with schools, home and community to meet the differing needs of the whole student;

  • Advocate for a safe and nurturing environment for all students by creating non-traditional educational opportunities that enable learning free from violence, conflict, and unnecessary disruption; and

  • Continue to examine the changing needs of students and adjust non-traditional educational opportunities as needed to meet their needs.

Objectives of the Department of Student Management and Alternative Programs

  • Provide a variety of educational opportunities that meet the varied needs of K-12 students and adult learners;

  • Promote a safe educational environment that is conducive to teaching and learning and free from violence, conflict and unnecessary disruption; and

  • Decrease the number of long-term dismissals through a process that provides more opportunities for non-traditional education.
