The University of North Carolina at Pembroke upgrades its student center with a new Daktronics LED display

Daktronics has designed, manufactured and installed a new narrow pixel pitch LED display inside the University of North Carolina-Pembroke (UNCP) Student Center on the Pembroke, NC campus. The installation features two double-sided marquees and took place this summer to welcome students returning to campus in the fall.

“The LED display has become a real focal point in the Chavis University Center,” says Dr. Jeff Howard, UNCP Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. “It’s both a great way to promote campus activities and become the activity itself when broadcasting content such as sporting events or video games. Double-sided marquees are very popular for announce campus events to our campus and our community The UNCP and our students certainly welcome these new promotional opportunities.

The narrow pixel pitch display features a pixel pitch of 1.6 millimeters and measures approximately 7 feet high by 14 feet wide. It engages students in a prime gathering area on campus as it shares live streams of campus events and other university messages. It is capable of variable content zoning which allows it to display a large image or be divided into multiple areas to display a combination of video, graphics and messages at the same time.

“Communication on campus is extremely important for students and universities in today’s world,” says Corey Williams, Daktronics sales representative on the project. “Implementing high-quality, near-vision LED technology in this space gives UNCP an edge in connecting with its students and changing messages quickly and easily. We are thrilled and honored to bring these LED displays to their campus.

Two double-sided marquees have also been installed on campus. One is located at the main entrance to welcome visitors to campus and is approximately 6.5 feet high by 11 feet wide. The other exhibit is located outside the Givens Performing Arts Center to welcome the public and inform them of upcoming events. This display stands approximately 4 feet tall by 9 feet wide. Both dual-sided screens feature 10 millimeter pixel spacings.

To connect and control these new displays, Daktronics has included Venus Control Suite with this installation. This flexible and powerful solution is able to schedule content to indoor and outdoor displays from anywhere, anytime, all from a single control space.
