University of Alabama renames Ferguson Student Center to Moore Hall

The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees approved the renaming of the Ferguson Student Center and Moore Hall. The Ferguson Student Center, which was named in honor of the former board of administration William Hill Ferguson, will henceforth be called the UA Student Center.The theater inside the student center will henceforth be called Ferguson Theatre. “Mr. Ferguson’s substantial contributions to the University of Alabama should continue to be honored, albeit in a less visible way,” the council said in a resolution. Moore Hall will be renamed Wade Hall in honor of the the school’s first black faculty member, Dr. Archie Wade. The building was originally named after UA’s first Dean, Albert B. Moore. A panel of historical experts and trustees said in the resolution to rename Moore Hall that “some aspects of Dr. Moore’s legacy were incompatible with the current values ​​of the University of Alabama system.”
